Spring 2008

Cockington Green GardensI have mixed feelings about spring. It’s a great time of the year and yet hay fever could really make it miserable. But, it’s when we indulge in a bit of outdoors. Jeanne and I started it with a get-away in Canberra. We realised that for a very long time – we haven’t been taking any break from work. So one day, out of the blue she called me at work and said – she’s taking a week off. I said fine, got off the phone, booked a hotel in Canberra and called her back to tell her I’m joining her. We’ve been wanting to visit the Floriade for years, see the miniatures in Cockington Green and cycle around the lake. And so we did.

Sydney Spring Cycle - 19 October 2008Not long after, there was the Sydney Spring Cycle – it is our 5th year to participate in this event. This year however, was the first time that the event had several starting points. The traditional North Sydney area, Blacktown Olympic Park and from Liverpool. All routes converged at the Sydney Olympic Park. We decided to start from Blacktown as it was closest to us. This year, we were joined by Vic and Luisa. Although Luisa had just recently learned how to ride the bike, she managed to travel over 20km before giving up on the 45km journey. The way I see it, she beat thousands others who never started. Great job Luisa! – see you on the next ride.

Seven Bridges Walk - 26 October 2008The following week – we participated in the Seven Bridges Walk. It is the third year that this event is held and our second. Unlike last however, where we finished the 25km course, this year we only planned and completed 14km. We bailed out at The Rocks, where we spent the rest of the day like tourist in this great city.
