Thank you for visiting www.rommelpascual.com. This is the personal wiki of Rommel Pascual. It is a repository of notes which use to be scattered in various blogs and other websites. Some pages here would require passwords or logins to read or to edit. However, the Jokes and the Recipes are open sections, you will not be required to login to read or edit these sections. If you're inclined, your are welcome to add jokes or recipes in these sections.

Feel free to browse through the pages. The Home is this page. The Bookmarks is my feeble attempt to consolidate all my bookmarks in one page. There are better ways of doing this, like the subscribing to an online bookmark service such as foxmarks.com. The Guestbook is, of course, the area where you could leave comments about this site (be kind). The section called Notes are random notes/blogs I care to share. This is perhaps the area I wish to develop the most in this site. Currently, editing in this section is restricted but it's for everyone to read.

The Page List section is a special page that list all accessible document in this site. Quick Notes takes you directly into editing mode in one click. This is equivalent to having a pen and paper handy, however, be aware that anything written here can easily be overwritten. It is best to move the notes to a more permanent page sooner rather than later.

The Play Area is for everyone who want to try their hand on wiki writing and would want something to maintain. The Jokes and Recipes are for everyone to contribute on.

If you're interested or curious about how wiki works, you are welcome to experiment on the Wiki Sandbox. This section is intended for experimentations on various wiki markups and features. I recommend that you read the Wiki Basics section to learn about these features. There is also a summary of common notations on the edit form. The wiki is widely used in the web for documentations, a prime example is the Wikipedia.

The Seawind Network

The SEAWIND Gallery is a site that contains all our digital photos. It's a fully featured non-commercial images repository. You can register and upload your photos in this site and if you're patient - you can use it as an off site backup of your photos. However, I recommend using flickr instead. They have faster network connections and currently have no maximum storage limits, which means you can store as many photos you want. We use it ourselves and were glad we did. I lost some photos when my 300GB disk burned. Although the data may not have been corrupted in the disk, to replace the electronics to get to the data is an expensive option. Besides, most of the contents were restorable except for some photos. Eventually, I discovered that the photos I thought to have been lost forever, were once uploaded in flickr or in Webshots.

familytree.seawind-network.com

Our family tree web pages, a pet project of the SEAWIND Network , are generated using a software called GRAMPS. This is the same software used to maintain the family tree database. The database itself is on another PC in our network but not accessible via the net. Our family tree now has its own sub-domain so that it can easily be remembered, you can now address it in your browser as http://familytree.seawind-network.com .

The Holroyd Musical and Dramatic Society presented a production of "The King And I". There were 6 shows in all, consisting of an evening show on a Friday and Saturday and a Matinee on a Saturday on the 14, 15, 21, 22 September 2007.

Tuptim was played by my daughter Celine. This is the third principal role in the play with the King and Anna as the first and second roles, of course.

The story of Tuptim is that of a Princess of Burma who was given as a gift to the King of Siam (Thailand), presumably to forge an alliance between these 2 kingdoms. However, Tuptim is in love with a Burmese man called Lun Tha who was also tasked by the King of Burma to escort Tuptim to Siam.

This was the scene when Celine (Tuptim) first appears in the play. In this scene, she is presented to the King by the emissary Lun Tha. The King cursurly examined her and left.

Then Tuptim was left on the stage to reflect and sang My Lord And Master. The song reveals her inner thoughts - what does the King really know about her other than her physical appearance. The King might think that her smile or feelings are for him but he'll never know that she loves another man.

(BTW the costume used by Celine in these scenes was designed and sewn by her sister Jessica. She also worked backstage on these shows, looking after Celine's make-up, hair and costume changes.)

We Kiss In The Shadows

Lun Tha and Tuptim have secret meetings with the help of Anna. In this scene, however, they knew that their meetings will now be over as Anna has decided to leave Siam after a major disagreement with the King concerning a house that the king denies having promised Anna. In this scene, the lovers reflects on their situation wishing they never have to hide their feelings to each other. But their meeting was interrupted as they realised they were being watched. Lun Tha made a quick exit and Tuptim was left alone to sing a reprise of We Kiss In The Shadows

In the story, Tuptim is already versed with the English language and has written play, an adoptation of an American Novel called Uncle Tom's Cabin. When the King decided to host a ball for the visiting British dignitaries, Mrs. Anna suggested that the play be presented at the Theatre Pavillion. At the night of the ball, Lun Tha was ordered to leave Siam, a move that was meant to severe the relationship with Tuptim. Instead, Lun Tha arranged an escape with Tuptim.

09.IHaveDreamed2.jpg: 272x407, 111k (April 11, 2008, at 11:52 AM)

In this scene, the couple sang I Have Dreamed. This is about their aspiration on how beautiful life is going to be after their escape.

They were interrupted by Anna who was looking for Tuptim as she was expected at the Theatre Pavillion for her presentation. Before heading off to the theatre, Tuptim bid Anna farewell, expecting that this was going to be their last meeting.

11.YourMajestyAndHonourableGuests.jpg: 272x407, 114k (April 11, 2008, at 11:52 AM)

Your Majesty And Honourable Guests was the opening line of the Small House Of Uncle Thomas with Tuptim as the Narrator. This play within the play is a parallel story of Tuptim. The play is about Eliza, the Slave, fleeing from her master King Simon of Legree to be with her lover George.

After the play, Tuptim made her escape dressed in religious clothes but she was captured by the secret police and was brought to face the wrath of the King. In this scene, the King himself was to deliver the lashing to Tuptim to prove that he is a strong King but Mrs. Anna called him a BARBARIAN. The King was unable to get himself to inflict the lashing and fled the room in embarrassment.

15.HeIsDead.jpg: 407x272, 141k (April 11, 2008, at 11:52 AM)
He Is Dead!

This was followed by the news that Lun Tha has been captured and was killed by the secret police. In this scene, the messenger informed the Kralanome, who was within hearing distance from Tuptim, that Lun Tha is dead.

16.ThenIShallJoinHimSoon.jpg: 407x272, 137k (April 11, 2008, at 11:52 AM)
Then I Shall Join Him

Tuptim broke down and declared "Then I Shall Join Him" as she was dragged out of the scene, where she gave a blood curtling scream as she was being killed behind the scene.

My First PMWiki Cookbook

Rommel Pascual November 11, 2007, at 08:10 PM

It's not rocket science but over the weekend, I learned a new language called PHP. It's the language of the web and it might have been better for my career if I spent this time learning ASP instead. However, the world of Open Systems have a special place in my heart. I can rave on about Open Systems but I'll digress.

Well the cookbook is currently called flickr_badge.php Δ although it really has nothing to do with flickr. It's just that I wanted to incorporate some flickr badges in my PMWiki and there is no easy way to drop embedded scripts.

On the right is a slide show that can easily be created from webshots. I've copied the script into a text file and gave it an appropriate name: webshots_acnielsen_ride.txt. The file is then uploaded in the Site.Snippets page.

As a bit of info on the actual photo, It was taken on 24 October 2004 at Bicentennial Park, Homebush Bay, during an organised ride by the Livewire Club of ACNielsen. We were meant to cycle all the way to Parramatta with the group but our friend who was just getting back on the bike was not up to it. So we decided to just explore the park. Your soundcard is alright - there is no sound with the slideshow.

Setup

In the local config.php, I've added the lines:

    $SnippetsHome='complete_wikipath/uploads/Site/Snippets';
    include_once("$FarmD/cookbook/flickr_badge.php");

As the setup suggests, I'm using absolute file addresses instead of using URL to loacate the snippet. I have no success establishing if a URL is readable using my 1 weekend old PHP knowledge. This means that any snippets will have to be uploaded into this location. Note that if your $UploadPrefixFmt = '/$Group'; is set as a group instead of '/$Group/$Name'; then you should set your :

    $SnippetsHome='/complete_wikipath/uploads/Site';

The last '/' should not be added, I didn't put a lot of code to handle this posibility.

The function of flickr_badge.php Δ is to read the uploaded script into the page using the markup:

    (:flickrbadge webshots_acnielsen_ride.txt:)

I will change the cookbook name to something more appropriate. Meanwhile, I'm still configuring my cvs repository - but that's another story.
